UNESCO World Heritage Phrygian capital Gordion, King Midas Tumulus, and historic battlegrounds of the Battle of Sakarya.
Situated 78 km southwest of Ankara, Polatlı was the epic battlefield of the 22-day Battle of Sakarya (1921), the decisive turning point of the Turkish War of Independence where invading forces were defeated and pushed back.
This historic struggle is commemorated at the Alagöz Commander-in-Chief Headquarters Museum, Malıköy Railway Station Museum, Sakarya Martyrs Monument & Museum, Duatepe Victory Monument, and the Mehmetçik Monument.
Just 20 km northwest of Polatlı at Yassıhöyük lies ancient Gordion—the UNESCO World Heritage capital of the Phrygian Kingdom—home to the Gordion Museum, the monumental King Midas Tumulus, and the legendary Gordian Knot.
