Altındağ
The historic core of the capital, home to Ankara Castle, Roman antiquities, Hamamönü, leading national museums and historic mosques.
Exceptionally rich in historical and cultural heritage, Altındağ preserves the oldest ancient monuments of the capital, including Ankara Castle, the Temple of Augustus, Julian's Column, the Roman Baths, and the Roman Theatre.
Landmarks from the modern era include the Ulus Republic Monument, the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, the Ethnography Museum, the War of Independence Museum (First Grand National Assembly), and the Republic Museum (Second Assembly). The Taceddin Dervish Lodge in Hamamönü, where national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy composed the Turkish National Anthem in 1921, now serves as Turkey's first literature museum house.
The district also hosts sacred spiritual landmarks including the tombs of Hacı Bayram Veli, Karacabey, Ahi Şerafettin, Karyağdı, Gülbaba, and İzzettin Baba, alongside historic mosques such as Hacı Bayram, Aslanhane, Ahi Elvan, Alaaddin, Zincirli, and Kurşunlu. Numerous historic civil mansions—such as the Kamil Pasha, İshak Ağa, and Kabakçı mansions—grace the restored streets of Hamamönü.
