Itinerary · Two days, two cities

48 Hours in Ankara

One day in the old city — castle walls, caravanserais and a five-thousand-year museum. One day in the new — Anıtkabir, avenues and evening lights. A weekend plan that covers both halves of Ankara.

Day 1 · The Old City (Ulus)

  1. Morning

Five thousand years under one roof

Open your day with the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, from Hittite to Phrygian.

  2. Midday

In the shadow of the citadel

Wander Hisar’s lanes down to Hacı Bayram Veli Mosque, the inscribed Temple of Augustus and the hans’ courtyards.

  3. Afternoon

    First steps of the Republic

Follow the War of Independence inside the First Assembly building and early Republican culture at the Ethnography Museum.

  4. Evening

    Steam and lights

Shake off the day at Şengül Bath, then finish along Gençlik Park’s illuminated promenade.

Day 2 · The New City

  1. Morning

    Anıtkabir, unhurried

Arrive early for Anıtkabir and its museum; the Lion Road is worth its silence.

  2. Midday

    Lunch on the Forest Farm

Break within Atatürk’s founding farm-estate — a good place to try Ankara tava.

  3. Afternoon

    Along the avenues

From Kocatepe’s dome to Kuğulu and Seğmenler parks, into Kızılay’s heartbeat.

  4. Evening

    A farewell skyline

Close with sunset over Göksu Park or a curtain at the Capital Theatres.
