War of Independence Museum / First Assembly
The historic First Grand National Assembly building opened on April 23, 1920, where the Turkish War of Independence was directed.
Standing in Ulus Square, this building was originally designed in 1915 by architect Selim Bey in the First National Architectural Style. On April 23, 1920, it was inaugurated as the First Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
The historic General Assembly Hall—where the War of Independence was prosecuted, the 1921 Constitution drafted, the National Anthem adopted, and the Republic proclaimed on October 29, 1923—is preserved in its original configuration alongside Atatürk’s presidential office.
