Temple of Augustus
Monumental 1st-century BC temple dedicated to Emperor Augustus and the Goddess Roma, preserving the world-famous 'Monumentum Ancyranum' inscription.
Standing adjacent to the Hacı Bayram Veli Mosque in Ulus, the temple was dedicated to Emperor Augustus and the Goddess Roma between 25 and 20 BC by King Pylamenes, son of the last Galatian king Amyntas, to mark the annexation of Galatia into the Roman Empire.
The temple is globally celebrated for preserving the Monumentum Ancyranum (Res Gestae Divi Augusti), the complete bilingual Latin and Greek autobiographical testament of Augustus inscribed onto the inner vestibule walls—the only complete surviving copy in the world.
