Museum of Anatolian Civilizations
Named European Museum of the Year in 1997, housing the world’s foremost archaeological collection from Paleolithic, Çatalhöyük, Hittite, Phrygian, and Urartian civilizations.
Located in the historic Atpazarı quarter next to Ankara Castle, the museum was established upon Atatürk's directive to gather Anatolia's Hittite treasures under one national roof by restoring two 15th-century Ottoman monuments: the Mahmut Pasha Bedesten and Kurşunlu Han.
Chronologically guiding visitors from the Paleolithic era through the Neolithic (the iconic Çatalhöyük Mother Goddess figurine), Early Bronze Age (Alacahöyük royal sun disks and stag standards), Assyrian Trade Colonies (Kültepe cuneiform tablets), Hittite Empire (monumental stone reliefs and the İnandık Cult Vase), and Phrygian Kingdom (treasures of King Midas), its holdings are globally unmatched.
