Silk Road gem famed for Nallıhan Bird Sanctuary, colorful Asarlık badlands, the Tomb of Tapduk Emre, and exquisite silk needle lace.
Located 160 km west of Ankara on the historic Silk Road route to Istanbul, Nallıhan preserves pristine natural reserves: the internationally recognized Nallıhan Bird Sanctuary, the kaleidoscopic Asarlık Hills, ancient Hoşebe juniper woodlands, Ilıca Waterfall, and the centuries-old Monumental Juniper Tree.
In Emremsultan village stands the revered tomb complex of 13th-century Sufi master Tapduk Emre (mentor of the great poet Yunus Emre), alongside the shrines of his daughter Bacım Sultan and disciples Ömer Sheikh, Cafer-i Sadık, and Hasan Dede, celebrated during the annual Tapduk Emre Memorial.
The district is world-renowned for its registered Nallıhan Silk Needle Lace (İğne Oyası), traditional Nallıhan woven wraps (Örtme), bindallı velvet embroidery, and silver filigree craftsmanship.
