Kayabaşı Mosaic

Late Roman/Early Byzantine floor mosaic discovered in Polatlı Kayabaşı, featuring intricate geometric and floral tesserae designs.

Discovered in 1989 during salvage excavations at Kayabaşı in Polatlı, this 5th-century AD mosaic originally paved an Early Byzantine basilica, adorned with elaborate interlocking geometric braids and floral motifs.

Carefully conserved, the mosaic panels provide invaluable insight into rural aristocratic villas and ecclesiastical architecture in late antique Galatia.
