Gavurkale
Sacred 2nd-millennium BC Hittite rock sanctuary in Haymana, featuring monumental carved reliefs of deities and an ancient processional tomb chamber.
Situated on a rugged limestone hill near Dereköy in Haymana, 60 km southwest of Ankara, Gavurkale was excavated in 1930 upon Atatürk’s directive by German archaeologist H.H. von der Osten.
Featuring monumental rock reliefs depicting Hittite gods in pointed horned headdresses walking before a seated goddess, it represents one of Anatolia's premier Hittite religious sanctuaries.
