About this part of the city

Elmadağ

The eastern gateway to the capital, renowned for Elmadağ Ski Centre, Seljuk-rooted carpet weaving traditions, and wood-fired tandoor bread.

Established 41 km east of Ankara on the northeastern slopes of Mount Elmadağ, the district hosts the Elmadağ Ski Centre, the primary winter sports destination for skiing and snowboarding in the province.

Traditional textile crafts—including handwoven kilims, rugs, saddlebags, and bags—reflect deep cultural roots extending back to the Seljuk era. The scenic Kargalı area and Municipal Park serve as beloved excursion spots.

The time-honored artisanal production of Elmadağ tandoor bread has been passed down continuously from Seljuk times. In summer, mountain pastures offer refreshing high-altitude nature walks.
