Bitik Höyük

Prehistoric mound near Kahramankazan where the iconic painted Relief Cult Vase of the Hittite Old Kingdom ('Bitik Vase') was discovered.

Situated in Kahramankazan near Bitik Village, this ancient settlement mound was excavated in 1942 for the Turkish Historical Society by renowned archaeologist Prof. Dr. Tahsin Özgüç.

Stratified from the Chalcolithic to Early Bronze, Hittite, and Phrygian periods, the site produced the celebrated polychrome 'Bitik Vase' depicting a sacred Hittite wedding ritual, now housed in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.
